I am an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse, Clinical Nurse Specialist (APRN, CNS) with more than 20 years of nursing experience, including over 14 years in palliative care. Through my experience as a palliative care provider, I have managed the care of individuals with complex and serious illnesses, drawing on my expertise in symptom management, clinical decision-making, and communication. I am passionate about helping patients and families navigate difficult decisions by explaining complex medical information in ways that support understanding and align care with their values and goals.
Beyond clinical care, I have led and contributed to projects aimed at improving palliative and end-of-life care at facility, regional, and national levels. I am excited to bring my skills in patient-centered care, collaboration, and leadership to the Oncology team at Aspirus St. Luke’s.
Philosophy of Care:
My philosophy of care is rooted in compassion, respect, and partnership. I believe that every person facing serious illness deserves care that honors their values, preferences, and goals. I see my role as not only managing symptoms and providing medical expertise, but also walking alongside patients and families as they navigate difficult decisions. Clear, compassionate communication is central to my practice, and I strive to translate complex medical information into meaningful conversations that empower patients and families to make informed choices about their care.
I also believe in the power of collaboration. High-quality care requires teamwork across disciplines, and I value the perspectives each member brings in creating the best outcomes for patients. My goal is always to ensure that care is not only clinically effective, but also personally meaningful, supporting dignity, comfort, and quality of life throughout the course of illness.
Why I Went Into Medicine:
I chose a career in healthcare because I was drawn to the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others. Over the years, that calling has only deepened. I am continually humbled by the invitation to walk alongside individuals and families during some of life’s most difficult and vulnerable moments. Illness can be overwhelming and frightening, and I am grateful for the trust patients place in me to support them through these experiences. Being allowed into these sacred spaces where compassion, dignity, and humanity are most visible has shaped not only my practice, but also my understanding of what it means to truly care for others.
Personal Interests:
Outside of my professional role, I enjoy spending time with my two children and our dog and cat, who keep life busy and full of energy. I love being outdoors and take every opportunity to hike, canoe, and bike — activities. I am especially excited to explore along the North Shore. When I’m not outside, I enjoy quieter pastimes such as reading, learning about history, and challenging myself with trivia. These activities keep me grounded, curious, and connected, both to my family and to the world around me.
