Philosophy of care
When treating patients, I try to remember that even though this is another day at work for me it could be one of the hardest times they have ever gone through. I try to also remember that many factors affect them. We all need sleep, rest, motivation, confidence and encouragement to make it through the day. Time in the hospital is no different, and I like to try to meet people where they are at that day to work towards their goals.

Why Samantha went into the medical field
I got my undergraduate degree in health science because I loved working with people and enjoyed science while in school. I learned about occupational therapy while getting my undergraduate and thought it was the perfect mix between people, science, art and research.

Favorite advice to give patients
A lot of times recovery is a marathon not a sprint. As long as you try a little bit each day you’ve made progress.

Hometown
Anoka, MN

Hobbies
I enjoy walking my dog and hiking outside of work. I love traveling and visiting friends all over the country. I enjoy running, listening to podcasts and sewing to help my mom who has her own business.

Additional
I’ve lived almost everywhere in the Midwest, but absolutely love Duluth. I married my high school sweetheart (but I asked him to Prom)! I have a German Shepherd mix puppy that I adore. We named him Akona because it’s our hometown spelt backwards. I love sweets and trying new restaurants.
