Philosophy of care
I want to know what my client’s wants and needs are. I want them to tell me what they think they need to be able to do in order to get home safely. I want to listen to their goals and help them get achieved in big and small ways.

Why Melissa went into therapy
I worked for an outdoor adventure camp for people with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) where we were trained by an occupational therapist. She taught me the importance of helping people become more independent in the big things and the little things. She even went white water rafting with us with her own client who has ASD. It was amazing to see her in action on the Colorado River!

Favorite advice to give patients
Do as much for yourself as you can while you’re in the hospital. If you don’t try to do the little things for yourself, it is easy to lose your independence without realizing it.

Hobbies
Hiking, biking, hosting groups of friends for meals, reading and going to concerts are some of my favorite interests.
