Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy
Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBO) is a medical treatment that enhances the
body’s natural healing process. During treatment, patients lie in
a transparent chamber and breathe 100-percent oxygen.
How does it work?
A patient will visit St. Luke’s Advanced Wound Care & Hyperbaric
Center on a set schedule for several weeks. During each session, they
will enter the hyperbaric chamber and relax. This controlled environment
improves oxygen delivery to all tissues of their body. It also encourages
their body to:
- Reduce swelling
- Fight infection
- Build new blood vessels
- Produce new, healthy tissue
Who is HBO for?
HBO is for patients with chronic, non-healing diabetic wounds who have
tried other forms of wound care treatment. HBO is also a safe, effective
treatment option for patients with injuries or conditions following months
or years of radiation therapy.
