The designation was made after staff at St. Luke’s Mariner Medical Clinic took part in training that is part of the Dementia Friendly Community Initiative of Superior. This effort is part of an initiative from the Caregiver Coalition of Douglas County. The group has been working to educate local businesses on how to create a community that shows a high level of public awareness and understanding of people with dementia.

St. Luke’s Mariner Medical Clinic is one of the first businesses in Superior to complete this training. Clinic staff learned how to identify signs of dementia, understand how to effectively communicate with people with dementia in the clinic setting, how to create an environment that is safe and easy to navigate, and gain knowledge about where local resources can be found.
