Our History

St. Luke's was the first hospital in the city of Duluth. It was founded in 1881 in response to the typhoid epidemic that was ravaging the city. What began in a small room above a blacksmith's shop has now grown into a regional health care system with the same strong focus on patient care.

A History of Firsts

Along with being Duluth's first hospital, St. Luke's has continued to show medical leadership.

The Patient. Above All Else.

St. Luke's is committed to leading health care in our region. And we do it the way we always have—by putting the patient first.

Accreditations demonstrate St. Luke's commitment to safe and effective patient care of the highest quality and value, and our willingness to be measured against the most rigorous performance standards in the health care industry.
