How do I know if I need to see an allergist?

You should consider seeing an allergist if you experience recurring or severe symptoms such as:

• Asthma (wheezing, shortness of breath, coughing, chest tightness)
• Chronic allergies (hay fever)
• Frequent sinus issues
• Skin reactions (hives, eczema)
• Unexplained allergic reactions to foods, medications, or insect stings

What does an allergist do?

An allergist, also known as an allergist-immunologist, is a medical doctor who specializes in the diagnosis, treatment and management of allergic and immunologic disorders. These professionals have extensive training in the immune system and its interactions with various environmental factors that can trigger allergic reactions or immune system dysfunctions. An allergist can offer:

• Allergy testing
• Asthma management
• Condition diagnosis
• Immunotherapy (allergy shots or sublingual drops)
• Prescribing medications

What tests can be done to diagnose allergies?

Various allergy tests available, such as skin prick tests, blood tests (like IgE tests), and patch tests.
