Physician Advisor Physician Openings

Position Description

The Case Management & Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI) Physician Advisor reports to the Vice President, Medical Affairs and acts as a liaison between the medical staff, CDI and coding professionals, and case management to facilitate complete and accurate medical record documentation.

This job involves:

  • Educating medical staff and CDI and coding professionals on clinical concepts and how they relate to coding guidelines

  • Collaborating with CDI and coding professionals in developing appropriate and compliant queries and assists with denials

  • Acting as consultant for medical staff for appropriate utilization of hospital resources including appropriateness of hospitalization and level of care ordering, in addition to utilization and quality regulations from both federal and state entities

  • Coordinating with medical staff and third party payers for denial management

  • FTE: 0.5

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education: Graduate of an accredited medical school with a current medical license.
  • Experience: Minimum of two (2) years experience in clinical practice.
  • Time Required: Twenty (20) hours/week.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience: Understanding of coding classification systems and reimbursement methodologies. Strong interpersonal skills, excellent communication skills (verbal, written and listening), strong analytical skills. Experience in utilization management through membership with utilization management oversight committee or past physician advisor experience.

  • Licensure/Certification/Registration: Certified Clinical Documentation Specialist (CCDS) or Certified Documentation Improvement Practitioner (CDIP).
