Pediatric Rehabilitation Program

St. Luke’s Pediatric Rehabilitation Program helps children who experience physical challenges and difficulties with communication skills live up to their potential. Comprehensive and coordinated rehabilitation is available for children from birth through adolescence. The pediatric rehabilitation team conducts a thorough assessment in order to develop the most effective treatment plan. Children then receive one-on-one therapy in a play-centered environment. Family members are essential to the rehabilitation process. Parents become part of the
rehabilitation team and participate in therapy, home programs and treatment planning.

Physical Therapy

Physical therapy helps children develop or regain physical skills. A physical therapist can assist children in achieving their maximum level of independent mobility. Skills that can be addressed include:

  • Balance
  • Strength
  • Coordination
  • Range of motion
  • Gross motor skills

Evaluations for equipment and seating systems are also provided when appropriate.

Occupational Therapy

Occupational therapy assists children with the activities of daily life. An occupational therapist can help children learn how to perform, overcome or adapt skills in order to achieve a maximum level of independence.

Skills addressed include:

  • Specialized training with adaptive equipment
  • NeuroDevelopmental treatment (NDT)
  • Age-appropriate self-care skills
  • Visual perceptual skills
  • Sensory integration
  • Pediatric massage
  • Fine motor skills
  • Range of motion
  • Strength

Speech Therapy

Speech therapy helps children with a wide array of communication challenges. A speech therapist provides individually tailored treatment to meet your child’s specific needs. Speech therapy can assist with:

  • Expressive and receptive language
  • Augmentation and assistive technology
  • Articulation skills
  • Social skills
  • Stuttering
  • Voice
  • Swallowing disorders

Additional services include videofluoroscopic swallowing assessments, VitalStim® electrical stimulation for swallowing, and LSVT® (Lee Silverman Voice Therapy).
