How EAP Can Work for You

Design a program tailored for your organization and staff

It makes good business sense to offer an Employee Assistance Program. Your organization benefits by retaining employees, saving money associated with sick time and poor performance, boosting morale, and developing positive relationships with employees and
the unions that represent them. Employees who are in good mental and physical health are more motivated, productive and effective at work.

St. Luke’s Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is all about helping people. Employees are your company’s greatest asset, and St. Luke’s EAP is available to help your employees resolve personal matters – large and small. Your employees can use EAP to address issues
such as marriage and family problems, financial and legal troubles, stress, depression, substance abuse, and other personal or work concerns.

Training and Awareness

Before you implement EAP services at your company, our staff will give an orientation to familiarize employees and supervisors with how the program works. Employees may
access EAP services through self-referral, or supervisors may recommend EAP services to an employee.

One-on-One Counseling

When an employee needs help with personal matters, our EAP counselors are available to:

  • Listen without judging
  • Discuss the problem and determine the seriousness of the situation
  • Design a program tailored for your organization and staff
  • Explore options and recommend appropriate resources
  • Teach the employee skills to better solve the problem and make good decisions in the future

Organizations that use our EAP services typically cover up to three short-term counseling sessions for employees (and their family members, if needed). Sessions usually last an hour and take place at St. Luke’s EAP offices to provide a confidential environment for the employee.
Employees can be assured that, unless they give written consent, their information won’t be shared with their employer.

Referrals

After an employee receives EAP counseling, we will refer him or her to other community resources – such as support groups, long-term therapy or agencies that specialize in
financial assistance, legal advice and other areas – if needed.  We may also follow up with the employee to make sure the referral agency provided satisfactory assistance.

Our counselors try to refer employees to agencies where insurance will cover the cost of the service. If an employee chooses to seek services not covered by insurance, our counselors will help him or her find ways to minimize the cost.

Telephone and On-Site Counseling

Counselors are available over the phone during regular office hours to help your staff resolve workplace conflicts.  If you request further resolution, we will follow up with a visit to your workplace. In the event of a traumatic incident at your workplace, our counselors are trained to provide critical debriefing on-site.

Consultations

At your request, we are available to provide written recommendations or conduct customized
surveys to address workplace issues that could be improved.

Other Training and Education

Depending on the needs of your organization, we offer special programs for your staff. Supervisor training features topics such as leadership, coaching, confrontation and
monitoring workplace performance. Educational programs include presentations about conflict, communication skills, stress management, team building, drug and alcohol issues, family relationships, anger and depression.

Drug-Free Workplace Evaluations

In addition to EAP services, we offer substance abuse assessments for organizations regulated by Federal Department of Transportation guidelines. We also provide similar services for other companies interested in developing a drug-free workplace policy.

Experienced Counselors

For the past 25 years, we’ve provided a wide range of professional EAP services to St. Luke’s employees and to local and regional employers. As part of the first EAP in Duluth, our experienced, licensed and certified counselors specialize in EAP services and have a long tradition of working with organizations in the area.

Affordable Rates

We offer simple, fee-for-service rates, which means you only pay for the services
that your company uses. And at no cost to you, we offer telephone consults and
an EAP newsletter featuring health and wellness tips for your employees. For
