Cancer Care Center

St. Luke’s has been diagnosing, treating and providing ongoing cancer care to individuals in the region for many years. Competent, caring physicians head a patient care team that truly recognizes the emotional, spiritual, psychological and physical needs of patients and their loved ones. This type of individualized, yet comprehensive and compassionate care, supports patients and their families from the time of diagnosis through survivorship.

Understanding Cancer

Cancer can occur at any age, to anyone. The word cancer is a general term that describes an abnormal and uncontrolled growth of cells in many parts of the body. Its precise type is determined by careful examination of the cells and surrounding tissue.

St. Luke’s Cancer Care Center offers patients the same personal, individualized care synonymous with St. Luke’s, with the added convenience of cancer-related services in one location. Patients and families discover a space designed to offer top quality, coordinated medical care in a soothing environment.

The Cancer Care Center is conveniently located on the first floor of the Lakeview Building on the corner of Superior Streetand 10th Avenue East in Duluth. The close proximity of services at the Cancer Center supports the team approach that St. Luke’s believes is essential in caring for cancer patients. The Center offers medical oncology, radiationoncology and infusion therapy services.

Chemotherapy and other infusion therapy treatments are provided in a friendly, open environment that encourages interaction between patients and families. The area’s full bank of windows offers a stunning view of Lake Superior. A full-range of radiation services is offered on-site, including intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) andimage guided radiation therapy (IGRT).

Clinical Research Advantages

St. Luke’s and the University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) School of Medicine have shared a unique bond — Whiteside Institute for Clinical Research, since 1996. The Institute promotes, implements and advances clinical research activities with an emphasis on cancer. Your doctor will inform you of clinical trials available should you meet the appropriate criteria.
