Violet Parson-Volunteer Spotlight

Violet Parson started volunteering in 1990 and has given over 3,000 hours of service to St. Luke's. She currently volunteers at 3 East Family Waiting and previously at 6 ICU, information desk, pharmacy, as a messenger, flowers and moulage for the education department. Assisting others in any area of the hospital is what she enjoys most about volunteering.

Violet was born at St. Luke's and is a lifetime resident of Duluth. She and her husband Albert have been married for 66 years. They celebrated their 50 th anniversary on a cruise through the Panama Canal. She has 5 children, 8 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. She worked at St. Luke's Hospital for 10 years, Park Point Manor, St. Louis County – Cook Home and Chris Jensen as a 3 – 11 Supervisor and retired in 1985.

She is a graduate of St. Luke's School of Nursing and was in the last class of Cadet Nurse Corp of WWII.

She enjoys family get together, travel, camping, hiking and riding bike. Her hobbies are crocheting hair pin lace afghans, crossword and jig saw puzzles.

You will be surprised to know that she rode a camel at the Great Pyramids in Egypt and an elephant in Thailand. She walked the Great Wall of China, climbed Machu Picchu in Peru, rode a zip line in Costa Rica plus many more excursions and adventures.

Her community activities include reunion committee for Denfeld High School class of 1945 and just celebrated their 69 th reunion. She is a member of St. Luke's Nurses Alumni Association (a previous board member) and a previous board member of St. Luke's Volunteer Service Guild.
