Lake View Hospital Receives CT Accreditation

Posted On:

Radiologic technologists Kelsey Raycraft, Victor Murray, Krista Falk, Sarah Edlund.Lake View Hospital has been awarded a three-year accreditation in CT (computed tomography) scanning by the American College of Radiology (ACR).

It is the first time that Lake View Hospital has earned the ACR accreditation, which recognizes Lake View's commitment to the highest level of image quality and patient safety.

The news of the accreditation comes on the one-year anniversary of Lake View Hospital's installation of a new, low-dose CT scanner, which uses the most modern technology available to reduce the radiation dose to patients while ensuring that physicians still receive a great quality image.

"The accreditation is everything we were doing already, but it's now recognized," said Terri McDannold, Lake View Hospital's director of radiology. "Since we started scanning patients eight or nine years ago, we have increased the speed of the scan and lowered the dose, and it's less time for patients to be in there."

The ACR accreditation is awarded to facilities which meet ACR practice guidelines and technical standards and have been evaluated in a peer-review by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field.

CT scans can be used for diagnosing fractures, tumors, abdominal diseases, and head injuries.
