At St. Luke's Rheumatology Associates, we will work with you to treat your condition, lessen your pain and help you achieve the happiest, healthiest life possible.

Some of the conditions that we treat include:

  • Gout/pseudogout (or 'false gout')

  • Osteoporosis
  • Rheumatoid arthritis
  • Tendonitis/bursitis

What is a rheumatic disease?
Rheumatic diseases are autoimmune disorders. Normally, your body’s immune system only attacks harmful invaders that enter the body. Rheumatic diseases cause a malfunction in this system and the immune system starts to attack healthy body tissues. It’s unknown what exactly causes this, though genetic factors, smoking and pollution can all play a part.

How are rheumatic diseases treated?
Most rheumatic conditions cannot be “cured.” However, rheumatologists can treat the symptoms of the condition to help you manage the pain and live your life without discomfort. A combination of different treatments can help keep muscle, tissue and joints healthy to reduce inflammation. A rheumatic treatment plan may consist of the following:

  • Medication
  • Physical therapy
  • Diet recommendations
  • Other lifestyle changes
