Swing Bed Program

Supporting return to daily life

St. Luke's Swing Bed Program is a short-term program available at Lake View Hospital for patients entering the rehabilitation phase of their recovery. Swing bed care keeps patients in the same hospital room and hospital bed to undergo rehabilitation services to support the transition to home or while awaiting placement in a long-term care facility. Patients often experience significant improvement in a short time.

During the acute hospital stay, patients receive daily visits from a physician, and a nurse assesses the patient's condition at the start of each shift. During the Swing Bed Program, an assessment is done to determine rehabilitation goals. A physician visits only as often as needed. There is 24-hour nursing care, but a nurse will assess the patient's condition daily and inform the physician. Patients are encouraged to wear their own clothes and participate in an activities program to promote well-being and recovery.
