Mary Johnson was the first certified nurse midwife with hospital privileges
in Duluth. She joined St. Luke's Obstetrics & Gynecology Associates
in September 2015. She will see patients at St. Luke’s Obstetrics
& Gynecology Associates, as well as provide low-risk deliveries at
St. Luke’s Hospital. Mary is board certified by the American Midwifery
Certification Board and is a member of the American College of Nurse-Midwives.
Mary is particularly interested in empowering women. She chose to be a
nurse midwife because a midwife delivered her first child. Mary believes
that women are strong and know their own bodies, and that they are the
best decision-makers for themselves. Beyond midwifery, Mary’s interests
lie in women’s health, and working with adolescent women, especially
in regards to contraception.
Mary loves Duluth. She especially likes the outdoors, so the fact that
she can walk six blocks out her front door, and be on a hiking trail makes
Duluth ideal. She also enjoys gardening, camping, and cross-country skiing.
Some of her favorite indoor activities include crocheting and reading.
Mary and her husband raised their three children in Duluth, although now
her husband would say they have more children to raise—their two
dogs—both Schnoodles. Mary also has a three-year-old granddaughter,
and a two-month-old granddaughter, both beautiful.
