Innovative Outpatient Treatment for Angina and Heart Failure
The non-invasive treatment is called EECP Therapy or Enhanced External Counterpulsation. During treatment, patients wear three sets of compressive cuffs around the calves and thighs. The cuffs inflate sequentially from the calves to the upper thighs at millisecond intervals while the heart is at rest, pushing oxygen-rich blood to the heart. EECP treatment lasts one hour, five days a week for seven weeks. Approximately 80 percent of patients who complete the 35-hour course of EECP therapy experience significant symptom relief that may last up to three years. They report having more energy and a more positive outlook on life. For more information, call St. Luke’s Cardiology Associates, 249-3057.
