St. Luke's Volunteer Memorial Scholarship

St. Luke's Volunteer Service Guild awards scholarships to students pursuing a health care career.

Candidates for the scholarship must:

  1. Be a graduate of a Minnesota or Wisconsin high school and be a current resident of a community where St. Luke's has a presence. (example: Duluth, St. Luke's; Silver Bay, Bay Area Medical Clinic.)
  2. Be accepted and presently enrolled in one of the accredited healthcare programs listed below.
  3. Demonstrate an interest in a healthcare career.
  4. Have completed one semester post-secondary academic work in their accredited healthcare program before applying.
  5. Demonstrate scholastic ability with a GPA of 3.1 in their chosen field or cumulative work.
  6. Demonstrate quality of character and sensitivity to the sick.

The following schools and accredited healthcare programs qualify for this scholarship.

  1. UMD:
    1. College of Medicine
    2. College of Pharmacy
  2. Lake Superior College:
    1. Associate Degree in Nursing
    2. Radiological Technology
    3. Physical Therapist Assistant
    4. Respiratory Care Practitioner
    5. Practical Nursing
    6. Surgical Technology
    7. Medical Laboratory Technician
  3. College of St. Scholastica:
    1. Occupational Therapy
    2. Physical Therapy
    3. Registered Nurse
    4. Physicians Assistant

This non renewable scholarship must be used the year it is awarded.

St. Luke's Volunteer Memorial Scholarship

St. Luke's Volunteer Service Guild is pleased to award scholarships to students pursuing a health care career. Scholarship applicants must reside in a community where St. Luke's has a presence, be accepted and presently enrolled in an accredited health care program, have completed one semester post secondary academic work in their accredited health care program prior to applying, and meet GPA requirements. Accredited healthcare programs at UMD, Lake Superior College, and the College of St. Scholastica qualify for this scholarship.

Instructions & General Information

Please read all information concerning St. Luke's Volunteer Memorial Scholarship.

The application must be typed and completed in full. (Do not include a resume'). Please attach an unofficial transcript or cumulative record. Section 5a Personal Statement may be attached if necessary. Applications not fully completed will be disqualified.

Three recommendations must be submitted using the appropriate forms. Recommendations must include:

a. One post secondary education instructor in the health care field.
b. One employer or volunteer director.
c. One personal reference.

Application will be accepted between January 13 and March 14, 2014. All application materials, including recommendation forms, must be received on or before 4:00 p.m. on March 14, 2014.

No emailed applications will be accepted.

The recipient of a scholarship award will be notified by April 25, 2014. The number of scholarships and amount awarded will be determined by St. Luke's Volunteer Service Guild Board. The Award will be paid directly to the school/program in which the recipient is enrolled.
