Childbirth Education
St. Luke's Childbirth Education Classes help you gain knowledge and understanding of the birth process, so you can approach this exciting experience with confidence.
Being well informed invites active participation in decisions, which guide your care. If possible, coaches should attend all childbirth class sessions with you, so both of you can prepare for this experience together.
Knowledgeable health care professionals teach the classes. You can rely on their experitise for answers to your questions.
Please discuss specific concerns related to your pregnancy with your personal physician. Make a note of your questions and bring them to your next office visit.

2013 Class Dates
Labor & Delivery (3 day)
Parents expecting their first baby will receive information about labor, deliver, Cesarean birth and newborn care.
New parents will take a tour second and third night. Please dress comfortably and bring a pillow and small blanket to class.

Weekend Labor & Delivery
This two-session class is a condensed version for busy, working couples. It's a lot of information packed into a Friday evening and Saturday. Please dress comfortably and bring a pillow and small blanket to class.
Couples attending Labor & Deliver Classes are welcome (and encouraged) to attend Bonus Night to receive information about car seats and infant CPR. There is no charge. Registration is required.

Labor & Delivery Refresher
Expectant parents who have already attended a pregnancy course with a previous pregnancy are still encouraged to participate in either the 3-Day Labor & Delivery series or the Weekend Labor & Delivery series. Taking these classes again helps to familiarize parents on the latest obstetrical care and new medical trends since their last baby was born.

Preparing to Breastfeed

Expectant mothers (and significant others, if desired) who want to prepare for breastfeeding.Topics include mechanics of lactation and breastfeeding, common concerns, breast pumps, storage of breast milk, significant other's role in breastfeeding and community resources. Participants should bring a doll or teddy bear (size of a newborn) to practice positioning.

CPR Classes for Grandparents and Daycare Providers
Knowing how to respond to everyday emergencies withy appropriate quick action may save a life or prevent further injury. These classes are for anyone interested in learning life-saving techniques.
Training in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) prepares participants to perform CPR on infants and children and to manage an obstructed airway in chocking victims.

Baby's First Year
St. Luke's Auditorium, Second Floor
6:30 to 9 p.m.
$20/Couple
This class is for future parents to learn about their baby's first year of life. Growth and develpmental milestones, basic infant care, nutrition, and baby safety will be discussed. Parents-to-be will have the opportunity to practice basic infant care skills during class. Please bring a doll to class with you.
Dads-To-Be
This class explores pregnancy, labor, delivery and parenthood from the father's perspective. Expectant fathers are able to come together to discuss their feelings, concerns, and expectations of pregnancy and parenthood. During this class participants will be able to talk with a "new" father, ask questions and gain another viewpoint.
Note: This class is for father's-to-be only.

Birthing With Confidence
Non-Medical Interventions
Explore non-medical interventions that can be used by the labor support person to bring comfort to the laboring woman. Small group discusion and hands on practice will be used to present the following topics: aromatherapy, acupuncture, massage, birthing ball and guided imagery. Please bring two pillows and a blanket with you to class.

Expectant parents who know they will experience a cesarean (abdominal) delievery should attend this class. We offer this class on the third evening of the Labor & Delivery series and from 1-4:30 p.m. on Saturdays of the Weekend Labor & Delivery series.
